Artist Louis Morlæ reimagines how technology will impact our working future.
In this film, we travel to the dystopian landscape of Dungeness to discuss Morlæ's ideas of arcadia and visions of the future. His practice explores how technology can shape society, while reflecting on its dangers, hopes and ambitions.
Currently a resident at Somerset House Studios for the Creative Technologies Fellowship, in partnership UAL's Creative Computing Institute, we visited Morlæ's studio to learn about the sculptures he creates that become characters in his digital animations. His process encourages us to look beyond anxieties around automation and instead imagines utopias where the natural world and intelligent technologies co-exist harmoniously.
Accompanied by his homemade drone, Morlæ invites us to question what a world shared with autonomous technologies could look like, and the potential freedoms and leisure it could offer.
