Dance & movement, Sculpture

SERAFINE1369 is an artist, dancer and body-focused researcher working with dancing as a philosophical undertaking.

SERAFINE1369 (Jamila Johnson-Small) focuses on dancing a form of communication and their practice has evolved across mixed media to incorporate sculpture, text, music, and film.

SERAFINE1369 believes that “the things that we do with our bodies, how we feel our bodies, create perspectives, speak to us about relation”.

They first joined Somerset House Studios with collaborative duo Project O (also comprising Alexandrina Hemsley) whose work experiments with alternative ways their bodies can be present and visible (on stage and off).

SERAFINE1369 completed an Arts Foundation Futures Visual Arts Fellowship in 2019, worked as a Torchlight Artist at Siobhan Davies Studios from 2019 – 2021, as an In-House Artist in Residence at Gropius Bau in Berlin in 2021, and are currently a resident at Somerset House Studios.
